MUR10010CTs are a type of diodes‐ rectifiers‐ arrays intended to be used in a wide range of applications, such as protection diodes, automotive, trucks, motorcycles and boats electronics. These diodes are built with 4 tightly coupled, lower voltage diodes connected to a single cathode terminal. Each diode has a breakdown voltage between 10 and 15 volts.
MUR10010CT diodes‐ rectifiers‐ arrays are mainly used in automotive applications, providing high reliability and a fast reaction time. Their low leakage current ensures optimal thermal stability. As multi rectifier, it allows working with circuit voltages higher than the sum of the maximum forward voltage drop of the individual diodes. This reduces the number of parts needed to set up a protection circuit, thus saving space and size of the assembly.
Working Principle
MUR10010CT diodes‐ rectifiers‐ arrays are designed to protect circuits and components against high, transient impulses of power, acting like an electrical shock absorber. It works by attaching one terminal to the point of reference and the other terminal to the source or load. The diodes are then connected so that the cathode (+) is in the direction of the source or load and the anode (-) is connected to the ground.
When the applied voltage is higher than the breakdown voltage of the multi−diode, each diode starts to work. The voltage drop of each diode is between 10−15V, so the applied voltage is reduced to the breakdown voltage and clamped until the applied voltage drops below the breakdown voltage. This protects the circuit from destructive, high voltage spikes.
In normal applications, the MUR10010CT behaves as a typical diode, allowing current to flow in one direction only. When the applied voltage is lower than the forward voltage drop, no current is allowed to flow.
