The MUR1100ERLG (or Schottky Barrier Rectifier) is a type of diode mainly used for power rectification applications. It is a single-phase rectifier formed by a combination of a Schottky diode and a metal-oxide varistor. The Schottky diode provides the forward-bias rectification and the metal-oxide varistor provides the reverse-bias protection. The minimum breakdown voltage of the MUR1100ERLG is 1000V and its maximum surge current is 30A. The maximum forward voltage drop is 0.65V.

Application Fields

The MUR1100ERLG can be used in a wide range of power rectification applications, including DC/DC converters, switch-mode power supplies, and high-frequency inverters. It can also be used as a main power rectifier in high-efficiency solar inverters or wind power converters. Due to its high surge current rating, it can withstand short circuit currents for a short period of time without any damage to the device itself.

Working Principle

The MUR1100ERLG works on the principle of rectification. It consists of two terminals - an anode and a cathode, with the anode being positively charged and the cathode being negatively charged. When a voltage is applied across the terminals, the diode allows current to flow in one direction only, allowing the anode to remain positively charged while the cathode remains negatively charged. This process is known as rectification, where an AC voltage is converted into a DC voltage.

The MUR1100ERLG also contains a metal-oxide varistor, which is essentially a non-conductive element that can be used to provide reverse-bias protection. When a reverse-bias voltage is applied to the diode, the metal-oxide varistor absorbs the voltage and prevents any damage to the device. The device also has a maximum surge current rating, which limits the amount of current that can pass through it for short periods of time, preventing any damage to the device if exposed to short-term high-current events.
