NB6L14SMNG is the next generation of low-jitter high-speed clock buffer. It is able to improve timing performance and reduce EMI (electromagnetic interference). This device is mainly used with system-level clock distribution systems and as essential support for various fan-out of clock signals.
The NB6L14SMNG operates with an input voltage up to 3.3 V, and has an output impedance of 50 ohms. It has an output power of +1.2 dBm, and a supply current of 5 mA. It has a maximum data rate of 4 Gbps in high-speed mode, and a maximum jitter of 4ps in low-jitter mode. The NB6L14SMNG can be used with multiple inputs and multiple outputs to provide flexible fan-out and better system performance.
In terms of clock buffer application, the NB6L14SMNG supports a wide range of applications such as data communication, multimedia, computer peripherals, medical systems, and digital video. Specifically, it has been used in 10 class GbE SFP+ compliance testing to ensure a significantly lower jitter than industry standards. It has also been used in 4 or 8 lane QSFP+ applications where 2.5 Gb/s rate per lane was required along with an operating temperature range of -40 to 85 oC.
At the core of the NB6L14SMNG is a series of complex, high-speed transistors designed to amplify the clock signal and minimize jitter. The device works together with a custom silicon-germanium core clock buffer that multiplies the clock frequency and reduces jitter. This is all done without the use of external timing components such as clock oscillators.
In addition, the NB6L14SMNG has a built-in phase-locked loop for optimizing timing and frequency matching between the output and input clock edges. This allows for improved jitter performance, reduced timing errors and better system performance. The phase-locked loop helps ensure phase synchronization and jitter reduction by dynamically adjusting the phase shift between the input clock and the output clock.
The NB6L14SMNG is ideal for system-level clock distribution, or as a fan-out buffer for a high-speed, low-jitter clock signal. Its high-speed, low-jitter characteristics offer a great advantage over other clock buffer devices, and it is able to meet the exacting specifications needed for many challenging real-world applications.
