NCP1002PG is an AC/DC Full Bridge SMPS controller developed by ON SEMICONDUCTOR, a leader in the power management and energy conservation provider of PMIC solutions. It features an integrated low-loss control circuit with an adjustable VCC, an adjustable output voltage, soft start and integration of the draining function. It is designed to provide reliable and accurate control of the power supply under varying load conditions.

This power management integrated circuit (PMIC) belongs to AC DC Converters, Offline Switchers as it is developed to operate full bridge/push-pull power switches from a traditional full bridge topology. The device easily adapts to a wide variety of applications by providing a turnkey solution with a minimum of external components. With its robust design and control circuit it is well suited for general purpose AC/DC systems ranging from 10 to 300 watts.

The design of NCP1002PG ensures simplified usage and improved performance when applied to offline SMPS designs. It consists of an input multiplexer, an output multiplexer, one enables pin and an external NPN driving transistor. Additionally, it includes an internal low side P-MOS driving transistor and an output power limiter.

The NCP1002PG works in 3 different modes: normal PWM, burst mode operation and power saving. Normal PWM operation is used with low load demand or when the input voltage is low. Burst Mode Operation (BMO) mode is used when the load demand is very low. This mode helps to reduce the input power consumption while maintaining the Vcc voltage regulation. Finally, power saving mode is used when the load demand is high, providing an excellent solution for no load and light load conditions.

The device contains a low-loss control circuit that allows for an adjustable VCC and supports an adjustable output voltage. This low-loss control circuit also has a soft-start feature and a drain connection feature that enables the user to easily determine the output voltage, without sacrificing efficiency.

NCP1002PG also provides excellent current protection, with a precision current limit that can be adjusted over a wide range. It also includes an overload protection circuit that prevents damage to the power supply in the event of an over-current condition. The NCP1002PG also includes an over-temperature protection circuit which shuts down the power supply when the temperature reaches a predetermined limit.
