NCP1216AP65G

The NCP1216AP65G device is a synchronous Buck type controller with active PFC function, specifically designed for offline AC-DC applications. Working Principle

The working principle of a NCP1216AP65G is based on a buck topology. It is a type of switching regulator, which uses a power MOSFET to switch it on and off at precise times in order to control the output voltage. The PFC control loop provides active power factor correction by regulating the input voltage at a desired value (e.g. 230Vrms). When the input voltage reaches its set value, the PFC is disabled and the main control loop is activated. The main control loop controls the duty cycle of the MOSFET switch and thereby regulates the output voltage.

The device is able to self-start after mains power on without any additional components, due to its Auto-Restart feature. It has a very low startup time (1 ms) compared to other controllers that require an additional PFC IC with a slow charging time. NCP1216AP65G also offers a wide range of protections, including thermal shut-down, output overvoltage, output over current, output undervoltage, open-loop protection, and abnormal over-temperature protection.
