Working Principle
NCV86603BD50R2G utilizes an on-chip low dropout linear regulator to convert a higher supply voltage VIN to a lower regulated regulated voltage VOUT as specified by the user. The output voltage of the device is adjustable from 1.8 V to 5.5 V, with a maximum load current of 1 A and a minimum load current of 50 mA.
The device has an integrated current sense amplifier for current limit protection, as well as open-drain current limit protection, short-circuit protection, reverse current protection, thermal shutdown and dropout status output. In addition, the device can enter power-saving sleep mode when the load current drops below the internally preset threshold.
The regulated output voltage is regulated by an internal control circuit, which compares the output voltage VOUT with an internal voltage reference. The error amplifier in the control circuit amplifies the difference between the voltage reference and VOUT so as to adjust the output current source Vg in order to maintain the VOUT constant.
NCV86603BD50R2G also has an adjustable current limit and soft-start capability. The current limit is adjustable between 50 mA and 1 A with a single-pin configuration. During soft-start, the output voltage increases slowly to minimize inrush current and to limit transient response during start-up.
