NCV8674DS120G, known as an advanced, economical, and general-purpose linear regulator, is specific to Voltage Regulator application fields. This device, being part of the Linear Regulator family, provides a versatile combination of precision and transient performance with great supply-noise and output-ripple rejection, making it possible to put a product into various applications.

The NCV8674DS120G is also well known for its working principle. It uses Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) as a topology to regulate the output voltage. The ratio of the on time to the total period is adjusted to change the output voltage to the desired level.
The main principle of operation is as follows. The internal error amplifier offers an output voltage reference to the internal control circuitry. When the output voltage of the error amplifier is greater then the voltage at the feedback pin, the output of the PWM comparator is high. This causes the output switching transistor to be on and the inductor current to rise. When the voltage at the feedback pin is greater then the output of the error amplifier then the output of the PWM comparator is low causing the output switching transistor to turn off, and the inductor current to be recycled to the output. An internal current limiting control also helps to regulate total output current.
This device also makes it possible to have remote sensing, because an external resistor divider can be used to sense the voltage at the load. When the remote sensing is used, the device can be made more precise in the changes of load demand and output voltage.
