The P1804UATP is a type of thyristor commonly used in high power applications, making it very popular. This article will discuss the application fields and working principle of the P1804UATP device.The P1804UATP, or ultra-high power thyristor, is a component with the ability to control high-power loads, up to several kilowatts, with switching frequencies up to 200kHz. It is typically used in applications such as motor control, power factor correction, and lighting control, and is also suitable for constant current applications such as welding.The device could handle high currents up to 1,000A, sacrificing some temperature stability for the increased power handling capability. It also offers a typical on-state voltage drop of 1.1V and reverse voltage blocking up to 1200V. The current gain of the P1804UATP is 0.1mV/A while its tracking speed is 0.03μs, enabling it to switch practically any load.The P1804UATP device has two terminals, an anode and cathode, and can switch from an off-state to an on-state in a fraction of a second. It consists of a reverse-biased p-type and n-type silicon p-n junction connected between its anode and cathode. When a positive voltage is applied to its anode, the reverse current flow in the device increases until it reaches the breakdown value. This in turn causes the p-n junction to become forward biased and the device to switch on.The P1804UATP can be triggered by either conventional gate triggering or current programming. In conventional gate triggering, a fixed gate voltage is applied to the gate terminal of the device. The gate voltage, when greater than the threshold voltage, will cause the device to switch on. In contrast, in current programming, a varying current is sent to the gate terminal. The varying current controls the amount of gate voltage applied to the P1804UATP, thus switching the device on and off accordingly.To sum up, the P1804UATP ultra-high power thyristor is an ideal device for controlling high power loads and is suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.
