Thyristors (TVS) are a type of semiconductor used for amplitude control. They are either used as an on/off switch, or in an analog control capacity which allows for variable levels of power and current to be applied through the thyristor when it is in a conducting state. The most common application for thyristors is phase control in AC circuits, where it is used to modify the sinusoidal waveform of the voltage. The thyristor is essentially a combination of two transistors in the same package, which allows for switching control to occur from both the positive and negative sides of the voltage. It is this ability to be used in both AC and DC circuits, which makes the thyristor a versatile and widely used device.
The P2103ACL is a three-phase analog thyristor used to control current in AC circuits. It is housed in a single integrated package with a space-saving, two-pin construction that allows for easy and secure installation. The device can be used in a range of applications including adjustable AC phase-angle control, phase-controlled burners, motor control, lighting control, and inverter switching. This is done by maintaining a certain amount of current flow through the gate of the thyristor in order to keep it in a conducting state. When the holding current is reduced, the thyristor will stop conducting. The P2103ACL has a number of other features and functionalities, including a voltage boost circuit that allows the device to operate at twice the voltage of the power supply, making it ideal for high voltage applications.
