PTZTE257.5A is mainly used in a wide range of circuit applications to dissolve over-voltage or pulse voltage and to protect the circuit and components from damage. This single Zener diode is applied to low and high power LED drivers, LED street lights, LED displays, small signal circuits, automotive circuits, and laptop switching power supply. It is also perfect for use in large-scale servers and storage room power supply, or any other circuits that need pulse voltage absorption.
Working principle
PTZE257.5A works under Zener regulation principle. This single Zener diode has a reverse-biased PN junction that allows a small amount of current to flow through it when the voltage applied to that junction reaches a certain level. The Zener breakdown voltage is pre-defined and will remain the same regardless of current applied to it. When the voltage of the diode increases due to the application of over-voltage, the diode will start to conduct, driving the voltage back to the designed breakdown voltage. Since the current at this point is regulated, it protects the circuit from the damage of over-voltage.
PTZTE257.5A Zener diode is also capable of absorbing pulse voltage. When a large pulse voltage is applied to the circuit, the Zener will immediately dissipate the pulse voltage into a small voltage level, and thus protecting the circuit.
In addition, with its peak forward surge current rating at up to 5A, PTZTE257.5A is able to conduct relatively large current with a relatively small temperature rise. Therefore, it is a perfect choice for applications that require a large amount of current conduction.
