Thyristors - TRIACs
TRIACs, also known as Triode for Alternating Current, are a type of thyristors formed as a combination of two silicon-controlled rectifiers. When a positive current flows in one of the two gates of the TRIAC, the other gate is assumed to be on and a current will flow in both directions between the gates.
The Q6016RH4TP is a high-performance, TRIAC-based power semiconductor, designed for various application fields including, but not limited to, industrial and domestic power supplies, heating control, motors and lighting. It is widely known for its high surge capability and high peak pulse power, making the Q6016RH4TP one of the most powerful TRIACs ever manufactured.
The working principle of the Q6016RH4TP is based on the concept of gate control, which has two distinct operation modes. When the gate receives an external trigger, the TRIAC switches from cutoff to forward conduction in a condition known as latching. When latching occurs, the device remains on regardless of the gate voltage, until the current flowing through the device has dropped below a threshold level, known as the holding current. This holding current varies according to the load current and other parameters, such as junction and gate capacitance, but it\'s typically between PO.5 and 5 mA.When the TRIAC is in forward conduction and the current drops to the holding current level, the gate voltage must be applied to switch the device off. This is known as the gate switching-off mode. In this mode, the TRIAC is switched off when the current drops to the holding current level and the gate voltage exceeds the device\'s gate threshold voltage, typically 10V for the Q6016RH4TP. The Q6016RH4TP has numerous advantages when compared to other TRIACs, such as its low on-state leakage current and its high peak pulse power.
