A TRIAC is a type of thyristor that consists of three terminal resistor and can be used for controlling current or voltage in both directions. Working Principle of Q8006VH4

The operation of a TRIAC is based on a four-layer semiconductor construction similar to a thyristor. When the gate voltage is below 2V, the TRIAC remains in its blocking state, with both the main and the reverse current is blocked. When the gate voltage rises above 2V, the TRIAC enters the conducting state and current starts to flow from the main terminal to the reverse terminal when the voltage across the main and reverse terminals reaches the breakover voltage of the device. This breakover voltage is usually around 6 to 10V depending on the TRIAC characteristics. When the gate voltage is taken below 2V, the current stops flowing and the device goes back to its blocking state. This feature is exploited in applications such as AC dimmer switches and fan speed controllers, where the TRIAC switches on and off at regular intervals, with the amount of time that the TRIAC is in the conducting state controlling the amount of power delivered to the load.

Operation Mechanism of Q8006VH4

The Q8006VH4 is a four layer device with three terminals, the main terminal (MT1) and thereverse terminal (MT2) and the gate terminal (G). The current flow through the device is controlled by applying a control voltage to the gate terminal. When no voltage is applied to the gate terminal, the device is in its blocking state and no current flows through the device.
