Thyristors - TRIACs A TRIAC is a three-terminal power device that can be used to control a wide variety of electrical apparatus, and includes a TRIAC’s specific application field, working principle and its structure. The Q8010LH568 is a single-channel, bidirectional, three-terminal thyristor, acronym for TRIAC, which is widely used and popular in the field of AC-powered electronic devices.Application Field Q8010LH568 mainly adopts in motor control, power meter control, fan control, lighting system, home appliance, dimming control and other applications. With the accurate stability and control, it can be widely used in these applications. The maximum repetitive peak off-state voltage is 800V and the maximum on-state current is 10A, which means it can control a wide range of motor speeds, power and electricity. Working Principle The TRIAC is a three-terminal ac switching device composed of two PNPN thyristors connected in series. When the gate voltage is greater than the breakover voltage, it will be turned on and can pass spark or current. The working principle of Q8010LH568 is the same as the typical TRIAC. When the input voltage is placed between MT1 and MT2 and an external DC voltage between MT2 and MT2, current will flow and the TRIAC is triggered on provided that the DC voltage is greater than the gate current.When the peak RI voltage is exceeded, Q8010LH568 will turn on and current will flow between MT1 and MT2. The TRIAC will remain in “on” state and the current will flow even if the input voltage is removed, until the voltage between the anode and the cathode becomes near to the zero. When the current passes through the TRIAC and exceeds the specified current, the current will be interrupted and the TRIAC will turn off.Structure In terms of the structure of Q8010LH568, both sides of its main semiconductor body are the anode (MT1) and the cathode (MT2), and the middle electrode is the gate electrode (G). In order to prevent accidental triggering of the device while in off-state, there is a gate protection diode. It is connected between the gate and the cathode electrode, which will clamp the negative-going gate voltage and prevent damage due to voltage stress. The Q8010LH568 is a robust device making it suitable for high temperature environments, making it suitable for different types of applications.
