The Q8015L5TP Bidirectional Gate Trigger Triac works via a "Gate" control. When the gate receives a pulse, the TRIAC is turned on and it conducts current across the two outer terminals. The Q8015L5TP utilizes a "T-shaped" bridge structure which consists of anode and cathode. The NPN and PNP transistors, which are internally connected to the gate control, are used to turn on and off the Triac. When the gate is connected to ground, the current runs through the P emitter-base junction, turning the NPN transistor ON. Switching off then occurs when the gate is freed, pulling off the PNP emitter-base junction and turning off the NPN transistor.The Q8015L5TP has a high surge capability, which allows it to handle higher voltage and current surges than conventional TRIACs.
