RT8097AHGB Application Field and Working Principle

RT8097AHGB is a DC-DC step-down switching regulator with a wide range of operating input voltage from 3.4V to 28V and output voltage from 0.6V to 22.2V. It integrates a high-side and low-side MOSFET to generate an efficient, fast transient response and low EMI, while maintaining maximum system efficiency. Its built-in over-current protection and over-temperature protection guarantee system reliability. It\'s applicable to a wide range of fields such as industrial control, automotive, communication, computer, PSU and home appliance applications.

Working Principle

The RT8097AHGB is based on a full bridge synchronous rectification topology using a high-side MOSFET and a low-side MOSFET. The two MOSFETs can switch between high and low sides to power the output voltage load. The current sense resistor and the MOSFETs are connected to the Dynamic Output DAC to ensure the safe operation of the device. The current sense resistor is used to measure the inductor current. The RT8097AHGB features adjustable enter and output voltage, current limit, and output disconnect function.

The switching regulator takes in the input voltage from the power source and delivers the output voltage to the load via the inductor and MOSFET. A Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control feedback loop constantly monitors and adjusts the output voltage and current by controlling the PWM duty cycle which determines the switching frequency. The output voltage is compared with the reference voltage generated by the internal reference module and the pulse width of the two MOSFETs is adjusted accordingly. The inductor smooths the pulses of current and helps the output voltage reach the required voltage. The output voltage accuracy is ensured by an internal voltage error amplifier, which is adjusted by the external feedback loop to maintain the accuracy. The peak current limit can be set with the low-side MOSFET OCP level.
