TVS - Diodes

Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) diodes are electronic components designed to protect other semiconductor components or circuits against high voltage surges. They are sometimes also referred to as voltage clamping devices, spike arresters, surge suppressors, or transient voltage protectors. TVS diodes are relatively inexpensive, have low capacitance values that limit the disruption of data signals, and have response times that are faster than other surge protection devices.

The SA43A R0G TVS diode is a silicon diode array designed for ESD protection of high speed data transmission lines, including USB, HDMI, Ethernet, etc. It is also effective in protecting against electrostatic discharge (ESD), radio frequency interference (RFI), EMI, and transient voltage. The SA43A R0G is available in three configurations: 2-line, 4-line, and 8-line, depending on the type and size of the device.

The SA43A R0G is a bidirectional chip that features integrated protection for both positive and negative voltage transients. It is designed to provide up to 1500W peak power dissipation and low operating and clamping voltages, with a maximum working voltage of 5.5V. The TVS diode also features a 1-pF low capacitance and a fast response time of less than 1.0ns. The SA43A R0G is RoHS compliant, halogen-free, and compatible with leaded and lead-free soldering processes, making it suitable for a variety of applications.

The working principle of the SA43A R0G is quite simple. In normal operation, it behaves as an open circuit, allowing approximately zero volts to pass through it. When a voltage exceeding the TVS’s breakdown threshold voltage is applied to it, the TVS diode begins to conduct, limiting the voltage rise across the device and clamping the voltage to a safe level. This ensures that no damage is done to the components connected to the diode.
