TVS – Diodes are types of transients, voltage surge suppressors. The SA43CA-E3/73 is a particularly effective diode used for preventing electrostatic discharge damage and controlling electrical over voltage.

Before understanding the application field and working principle of SA43CA-E3/73, it is pertinent to get an overview of its construction. This component consists of a reverse-connected SCR, a metal oxide varistor (MOV), and two diodes connected in anti-parallel.

An MOV is a large resistive element which exhibits a nonlinear resistance when supplied with an AC or DC voltage. Its resistance value varies drastically due to the exponential conduction of the component. This results in a much larger amount of current being supply while compared with other protects circuits. In SA43CA-E3/73, the inclusion of the MOV enables a wide working voltage range of 18V-32V.
