Working Principle

The working process of the three-phase SCR can be divided into 3 stages: turn-on, continuous conduction phase and turn-off. The turn-on phase is called firing, which is also called forward-breakover or triggering.

The turn-on process is that, after the anode voltage of the SCR is increased step by step, the positive anode voltage will be greater than the threshold voltage when the anode current is very small. At this time, the thyristor can be turned on, and a large anode current will flow rapidly.

The continuance conduction phase is that when the anode voltage of the thyristor is higher than the reverse-breakover voltage, the thyristor will be in a continuous turn-on state, i.e. the anode current is the same as the gate current, and the anode voltage and the gate voltage are basically constant.

The thyristor can be said to be off, when the gate current is reduced to zero at this moment, the anode current is reduced to zero very quickly.
