The working principle of the SMDB15E3 is based on the concept of a varistor, which uses a reverse-biased junction diode to reduce over-voltage and protect the equipment from damage. The device is composed of two electrodes, one of which is the reverse-biased p-n junction diode that has a specified trigger le, and the other is the metal oxide layer which acts as an excellent medium to dissipate the accumulated energy. Whenever the voltage on the denes rise above the predetermined trigger le, the device will start to activate and clamp the surge voltage at the set le, thus providing effective protection against voltage levels that could cause damage to the components.
