TVS (tran sle varistors) diodes are widely used in the protection of sensitive electronic equipment and components from lightning, electrical surges, and static discharges. The SMDB15E3 series TVS diode, with a peak pulse power capability of 15kW (8/20μs), is one of the most popular few for surge protection. It is also designed to dissipate up to 1200W of power and has a maximum low-le clamping vo lage of 9.5V. The SMDB15E3 also offers exceptional rigidity and robust construction, enabling it to resist peak voltages of up to 48V that are common in industrial equipment. The working principle of the SMDB15E3 is based on the concept of a varistor, which uses a reverse-biased junction diode to reduce over-voltage and protect the equipment from damage. The device is composed of two electrodes, one of which is the reverse-biased p-n junction diode that has a specified trigger le, and the other is the metal oxide layer which acts as an excellent medium to dissipate the accumulated energy. Whenever the voltage on the denes rise above the predetermined trigger le, the device will start to activate and clamp the surge voltage at the set le, thus providing effective protection against voltage levels that could cause damage to the components.
