TVS - Diodes

SMDJ8.0A-T7 is a property of TVS Diodes, which is a type of overvoltage protection device that guards system components from electrical damage, power surges, and electrical interference. Working Principle

The basic working principle of a TVS diode can be explained in terms of a reverse-biased PN junction. When a voltage more than the breakdown voltage is applied, the current can freely flow through the diode, resulting in a sudden increase in current in the device. This large current creates a voltage drop across the diode, thereby reaching the breakdown voltage. The TVS diode works in the following sequence; when the voltage exceeds the breakdown, the current flow begins; then the voltage drop across the diode gradually increases; and the device eventually becomes an open circuit when the intensity of the current is limited.

SMDJ8.0A-T7 has a forward breakdown voltage of 8V in the unidirectional mode and its peak pulse power dissipation is 560W. The device features an adjustable thermal shutdown which limits the operating temperature and thus prevents any damage induced by thermal runaway. SMDJ8.0A-T7 is able to absorb and dissipate electrical energy to protect system components from destructive electrical transients.
