SP7663ER-L/TR voltage regulators are a type of DC - DC switching regulator available from Texas Instruments. A DC-DC switching regulator is a converter that converts one DC voltage to another using switching technology. The SP7663ER-L/TR, which has a rated output current of 3A, is a low BAT voltage (1.5V to 4.2V) buck regulator, which allows it to be used in a wide range of applications.The SP7663ER-L/TR is able to regulate output voltage, track input voltage and maintain accurate current limit. The regulating process itself is done by controlling the duty cycle and switching frequency of an internal switch.The SP7663ER-L/TR operates in two different modes; pulse frequency modulation (PFM) mode and pulse width modulation (PWM) mode. In PFM mode, the device operates in a fixed maximum frequency, and the duty cycle is varied to regulate output voltage. In PWM mode, the frequency is varied and the duty cycle is fixed to regulate output voltage. The PFM and PWM modes of operation may be selected using the device\'s ON / OFF port.The SP7663ER-L/TR device is designed for low-voltage applications such as those found in mobile phones, digital cameras and other portable electronics. The device is housed in a 16-pin LLP (Low Profile Quad Flat No-Lead) package, which is designed to occupy minimal board space.In order to ensure reliable operation of the SP7663ER-L/TR, several protection features are included.
