The SP7656EB Evaluation Board is used to evaluate NCP7656 and NCP5658 step-down switching (buck) regulators. It is a field and working principle oriented board and is part of NCP’s DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS segment. This Evaluation Board comes with a switching frequency of 1.2MHz, associated with a peak inductor current of 2.0A. Its power supply is adjustable, with the range of 5.5V to 15V and capable of supplying up to 1.2A of continuous current. This board contains multiple input voltage ranges, the acceptable range being 4.5V to 15V as well as a programmable output voltage path, ranging between 0.6V to VIN.
This board is extremely versatile and is suitable for various applications such as building a 24V PSU to powering a system from a 12V supply. Its assorted features and characteristics make it highly suitable for industrial and embedded projects, such as powering FPGAs, MCUs, audio amplifiers, and POVs. This board simplifies prototyping and can facilitate high switching frequency buck regulators into a design.
The SP7656EB Evaluation Board is extremely efficient in operation and includes a ‘low noise continuous mode’ that offers quiescent current of only 2.6mA. This board facilitates synchronous rectification and maximum power point tracking (MPPT). This device also offers programmable soft-start and hiccup mode fault protection along with non-volatile memory for stored settings.
