Working Principle
The ST1S06PUR is a non-synchronous switch mode DC/DC converter, working in step-down mode. It is based on two transistors: an external N-channel MOSFET, driving a current through an inductor, and the internal P-MOSFET, connected to the output capacitor and to ground. The control circuit regulates the on time of the P-MOSFET, providing the desired output voltage.
The output voltage is regulated through a regulation loop. An external feedback divider is connected to the output, feeding the error amplifier which continuously compares the output voltage with the reference. Whenever the output voltage is below the setpoint, the error amplifier will issue a signal to the PWM controller, forcing the output voltage to go up. Whenever the output voltage is above the setpoint, the power saving mode is activated. The reference voltage for the loop is a stabilized voltage of -140mV. This voltage is compared to the feedback voltage, both being compared to the bias voltage in the error amplifier.
The ST1S06PUR module also features several integrated protections, such as thermal protection, over-voltage protection, over-current protection and under-voltage protection. All the protection features help make sure the module runs safely and reliably in any application.
