STEVAL-IHM045V1 is a Evaluation and Demonstration Boards and Kits developed by STMicroelectronics. It is designed to support the development of brushless DC motors (BLDC) applications with power MOSFETs or IGBTs. The STEVAL-IHM045V1 contains three components which include STM32F042 MCU, STBD2 dumb H-bridge, and STSPIN240 brushless DC motor controller.
The STEVAL-IHM045V1 provides users with the development and evaluation of a BLDC motor or for a permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) control system. The board can be used for applications such as automotive, medical, industrial and consumer applications. It can be used to test small and medium-sized motors up to 150 watts of power.
The STBD2 dumb H-bridge will provide a cost-effective and fully integrated driver solution for the BLDC motor as both arms of the bridge can provide up to two times the current delivery capability of the STSPIN240 brushless DC motor controller. This makes the STEVAL-IHM045V1 suitable for high-power motor applications. It also provides users with full-bridge current sensing in order to monitor the motor current and torque.
The STBD2 dumb H-bridge is composed of two logic control pins for input voltage, two logic control pins for output voltage, two logic interface pins for state change, two logic signal pins for motor-speed monitoring, and two dedicated current-shunt pins for current sensing. Everything except the logic pins can all be accessed and controlled via the STSPIN240 brushless DC motor controller.
STM32F042 MCU can be used as the main processor for this application. It has 16Kbytes of Flash memory, 2Kbytes of EEPROM memory, and a multiple-channel A/D converter. The STM32F042 MCU also features a configurable number of I/Os that can be used for motor control, sensing , or as general-purpose I/O. It can also drive the STSPIN240 brushless DC motor controller.
The STSPIN240 brushless DC motor controller is a integrated 3-phase gate driver that integrates power MOSFETs or IGBTs as motor driver transistors. The STSPIN240 is designed to enable robust and reliable driving of BLDC/PMSM motors up to 150 watts. It provides a high level of integration that includes a V/F control loop for open-loop speed control applications, a three-phase PWMs for three-phase BLDC/PMSM motor control, autonomous start-up circuit, and a fully integrated voltage regulator.
The STSPIN240 also includes a low level shutdown pin that can be connected to an external peripheral to disable the output stages of the device. It also features an over current protection that monitors the current into the power devices and further provide current limitation to it in order to protect the system from being damaged due to over current conditions.
The STEVAL-IHM045V1 Evaluation and Demonstration Boards and Kits have the following features: a MCU for management & programming, a H-bridge for high-power Motor Drives, a brushless DC motor controller for speed control & motor protection, and a low level shutdown pin for external peripheral control. The board is suitable for automotive, medical, industrial and consumer applications and can be used to test small and medium-sized motors up to 150 watts of power. This board allows users to quickly create and test a variety of BLDC motor or PMSM system applications.
