Evaluation Boards - LED Drivers

The STEVAL-ILL088V1 is an evaluation board designed for the purpose of driving an LED load with a synchronous buck topology. This board helps users evaluate the features of the L6230 device and its performance when used in LED lighting applications.

The STEVAL-ILL088V1 consists of two boards that are connected by two ribbon cables. The top board contains the power components and the bottom board contains the MCU and supporting components. The output from the boards is adjustable from 9 V to 32 V using the potentiometer on the top.

The MCU on the bottom board is an STMicroelectronics Cortex M4 with a frequency of up to 32 MHz. This board includes four LEDs, one for each step of the output voltage; one for undervoltage protection; one for overvoltage protection; and one for program/debug/overcurrent protection. The STM32L4 MCU is also provided with a bootloader so that new firmware can easily be uploaded to the board. The board also includes an NRST flag, which allows the MCU to be reset remotely.

The board is equipped with the L6230, which is a three-phase current controller that uses a Space Vector Modulation (SVM) technique. This allows the output to be stable and free from electrical noise and prevents the LED load from over-current or over-voltage. It also offers a very fast transient response.

The L6230 is also provided with a number of features, including: pulse-width modulation (PWM) control, analog dimming and current sensing, adjustable maximum current and frequency, motor rotation control, and fault protection. All of these features make this evaluation board ideal for LED lighting applications, such as warning lights, spotlights, and street lighting.

The STEVAL-ILL088V1 also provides a comprehensive set of peripherals, including a magnetic encoder, a temperature sensor, two voltage supply pins, two SPI/UART ports, four input/output ports, two analog comparators, four PGA ports and two quadrature encoders.

The STEVAL-ILL088V1 evaluation board provides an easy way to evaluate the performance of the L6230 device when driving LED loads, and is suitable for applications such as LED lighting, warning lights, spotlights and street lighting.
