The STEVAL-ISA024V1 is an evaluation board from STMicroelectronics, designed to evaluate the performance and features of the L6562A switched-mode power supply (SMPS) controller. It features like voltage and current sensing, temperature protection, selectable standby mode and adjustable output voltage through external resistors, provide the accuracy and performance necessary for many AC/DC SMPS applications.
The STEVAL-ISA024V1 evaluation board has an on-board step down power supply circuit with the primary side transformer and diode rectifier. The controller also features adjustable output voltage through external resistors and a standard PFC pre-regulator. It is also designed with a wide range of protection features like under voltage lock function (UVLO), over temperature protection (OVP) and over current protection (OCP).
The working principle of the STEVAL-ISA024V1 mainly involves the L6562A controller on the board. It is a voltage mode control, current mode control and PFC control regulator. It applies a current mode control algorithm to maintain regulation of the output voltage. The controller is supported by power stages such as power MOS transistors, power diodes, rectifier bridge circuit and integrated fuse for over load protection.
The L6562A provides a wide range of functions such as soft start and stand-by modes. The soft start allows the user to control the rise of the output voltage without overshoots and oscillations, while the stand-by mode makes the board suitable for high efficiency power applications.
The L6562A also provides integrated frequency jitter, a useful feature for reducing the amplitude of additive noise that is commonly associated with switched capacitor and resistor networks. This noise, in turn, helps reduce switching losses. Additionally, the controller also has a programmable switching frequency up to 50 kHz to meet the requirements of high power applications.
The STEVAL-ISA024V1 is an ideal evaluation board to assess the performance and features of the L6562A SMPS controller in off-line DC/DC and AC/DC applications. With its integrated features, it is a perfect platform to design high performance AC/DC SMPS solutions.
