The STEVAL-ISA162V1 evaluation board is used in the field of DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS. It is designed for control and power train implementation evaluation of a single output ac-dc off-line switch-mode power supply, taking advantage of the STM32F0 MCU for capacitive or resistive current waveform sensing. It addresses a vast number of applications such as LED drivers, small home appliances, power tools, TV sets, and HIDs.This evaluation board is composed of three main parts. It has a main board and two daughter boards. The main board includes the STM32F030C8T6 MCU, its associated peripherals, the STM32F051C8T6 microcontroller, and a USB connector for connecting the board to a PC. The two daughter boards are used for the main power section and input/output (I/O) quadrant for connection to external components.The STM32F030C8T6 microcontroller on the main board is used to control the SMPS and measure the current. It is equipped with 16 KB of Flash memory, 4 KB of SRAM, and one 16-bit timer with up/down counting capability. It also provides an RTC calendar, 12-bit ADC, 12-bit DAC, an Analog Comparator, and an internal temperature sensor. The daughter board that is used for the main power section is equipped with two low-pass filters (LPF), a ferrite bead filter that is used as an EMI filter, two clamping diodes, three IGBTs, two Intersil ZXGD3001E6 N-channel MOSFETs, three auto-reset fuses, and two PWM-controlled voltage regulators. The second daughter board includes the components used for the input/output (I/O) section. It is composed of two pins for controlling the slope compensation, two pins for controlling the input voltage, two pins for controlling the auxiliary power supply, two pins for controlling the soft start, and two pins for connecting the feedback from the output voltage.The STEVAL-ISA162V1 evaluation board implements the control and power train of the SMPS via voltage regulation, providing up to 15 W of power in a wide range of ac input voltages. It has an input voltage range of 100 V AC to 250 V AC and an output voltage range of 12 V DC to 24 V DC. The board only requires a few external components such as a power factor correction (PFC) circuit and a resistor for I2C communication purposes with the MCU to start operating.In terms of performance, the board is able to achieve an efficiency of up to 90% and an output ripple of less than 1%. Furthermore, it has a wide frequency range of 30 Hz to 400 kHz that allows it to be used in applications that require higher speeds. In addition, the board provides several protective features such as overvoltage protection (OVP), overheating protection (HOTP), and short-circuit protection (SCP).Overall, the STEVAL-ISA162V1 evaluation board is designed for control and power train implementation evaluation of a single output DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS. It offers excellent performance, efficient power conversion, and reliable protection functions to make it suitable for a wide range of applications.
