The STEVAL-ISA191V1 Evaluation Board is a field proven and versatile reference design for very-low power off-line Switched Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) with universal input. The board can generate an output voltage of 12 Å’ 3%, ranging from 0.8W to 1.2W, and is ideally suitable for both low- & high-power applications.

This board is tested with different input and output conditions and designed in a convenient modular architecture for improved functionality, flexibililty, application and cost effectiveness. It is suitable for applications such as consumer electronics and industrial applications.

The integrated IC used in the STEVAL-ISA191V1 board is the STBSEN01DZI ultra-low power controller IC, which is engineered for off-line, AC/DC and DC/DC applications. The low-power IC has an operating frequency of 1.5MHz and is engineered to provide maximum flexibility with minimum complexity. It also features a Fixed Frequency Discontinuous Conduction Mode (FCM) architecture, which helps improve efficiency and reduce system cost.

The STEVAL-ISA191V1 board operates in high power states at lower efficiency and low power states with high efficiency. In its high power states, the STEVAL-ISA191V1 can handle up to 1.2 W output power with any mains voltage ranging from 90 to 295 VAC. In its low power states, the STEVAL-ISA191V1 board is capable of delivering an output power of 0.8 W with a peak efficiency of 90%. It also has a line regulation of ±3%.

The STEVAL-ISA191V1 board consists of a power stage, microcontroller, current sensing and control circuitry, and output voltage sensing circuitry. The power stage includes a power MOSFET and a bootstrap diode for driving the power MOSFET from the output voltage. The current sensing circuitry includes a current transformer that senses the load current and provides feedback to the microcontroller.
