The TC4421EMF is a dual CMOS Inverter Gate monolithic circuit designed to drive small relays, lamps, and LEDs off of either a 3V to 18V supply. It is ideally suited for interfacing to low power, small signal controllers such as CPUs, DSPs, and FPGAs. The TC4421EMF’s unique dual-gate architecture enables independent one- or two-level drive waveforms, eliminating the need for an external resistor-divider to reduce the voltage to a lower level. The circuit has an open-drain output stage that can be easily pulled up to the desired voltage level.
The TC4421EMF is an ideal gate driver for use in both switching and isolation applications. It can be used to drive a wide variety of small relays, lamps, LEDs or optical sensors. The device is capable of driving both CMOS and TTL logic and can switch quickly between two different voltage levels.
The TC4421EMF uses a two-stage output drive mechanism to ensure a low-power and reliable state of operation. This drive is made possible by two transistors in the output stage. The first is an NPN transistor. It is responsible for providing the drive power to the output, by reducing the voltage of the input signal to a lower level. The second is the PNP transistor. It is responsible for translating the signal from the NPN transistor into a logic level compatible with the output device.
