Pulse Motor Interface Controller (PMIC) - Gate Drivers are units of transistors that enable or disable a power transistor. The power transistor drives the electric current in an inductive load motor, such as a stepper motor. The PMIC - Gate Drivers are used as an interface circuit between a logic device, such as a microcontroller, and the power transistor by controlling the power transistor in accordance with the logic device.

The TC4427AMJA is an example of a PMIC - Gate Driver. It is an improved high–speed dual MOSFET Driver capable of driving low–side and high–side N–channel MOSFETs in harsh power switching applications including power supplies, UPS, lighting, solar power inverters, motor drives and industrial control. It is designed to drive a wide range of MOSFETs including power MOSFETs, IGBTs, and high voltage SiC MOSFETs.

Application Field

The TC4427AMJA is designed to drive inductive loads such as relays, solenoids, lamps, motors, and so on. It can also be used for controlling small capacitive loads such real-time clock circuits or digital transistors. This device can be used with power MOSFETs, IGBTs, and SiC MOSFETs, as well as MOSFET switches and RF switches.

Working Principle

The TC4427AMJA is a dual complementary MOSFET driver. It has two windings for gate drive: one for the low side gate and one for the high side gate. It provides protection functions against shoot–through and overcurrent conditions by using the level shift principle and a current limiting circuit.

It also provides undervoltage monitoring circuit with selectable reset triggers in order to prevent unintended device operation. The device can either detect an undervoltage condition at a high level or low level and it can be programmed to reset either high or low level, depending on the application.

The TC4427AMJA also features low current consumption and high speed gate drive, relatively low body diode reverse recovery time and adequate RDS(on) regulation to prevent over heating. The device enables motor drive control from a 3.3V logic source, and features wide operating temperature range from –40°C to 125°C.
