The Working Principle
Aluminum electrolytic capacitors work on the principle of separation of charge. They are constructed using a solid aluminum anode, an aluminum oxide layer that acts as the dielectric, and a conductive cathode plate with a liquid electrolyte that doubles as the termination. The combination of these components enables the capacitor to store electrical energy.When a potential difference is applied across the capacitor terminals, electrons flow through the capacitance. The aluminum anode will become positively charged while the conductive cathode plate will become negative. This charge separation creates “electrostatic field” and a voltage is stored across the capacitor.As the electrical current flow through the capacitor, the electrolyte acts as a conductor. It enables the conduction of current between the anode and the cathode even when the electric field is not present. This also enables capacitors to handle higher levels of current density and capacitance at the same time.Conclusion
