The error counter also detects bit errors such as short wire, open wire and mixed wire. The error counter can also detect bit stuffing errors, which occurs when one or more bit on a CAN message is inserted or removed from the data stream. To handle these types of errors, the transceiver will reject the frame and request a new one.
