The TJA1028T/3V3/20/DZ is a high-performance and integrated physical layer transceiver. It is used to interface two nodes (M-Bus master and slave) on a two-wire bus in a point-to-multipoint or star topology configuration with maximum bus length of 1200 m. The driver part of the device is optimized for operation with low output impedance, low ground potential differences, up to 16 slaves, and it is possible to use the device for transmitting long messages like frame telegrams.

The TJA1028T/3V3/20/DZ is developed for devices being compliant with the EN13757-2, also known as the M-Bus standard. It is an interface with logic level 3.3 V. It offers an enhanced throughput with up to 20 Mbps data rate over 4x wired bus. Working Principle

The TJA1028T/3V3/20/DZ operates as a physical layer transceiver between two nodes. It operates as the bus master or slave depending on the application. The device provides a low power and low cost bidirectional communications interface operating with a data link layer protocol compliant with the EN13757-2 standard. The protocol implements a master/slave architecture supporting up to 16 slave addresses.

The device provides an asynchronous, half-duplex communication protocol over a two-wire bus at data rates up to 20 Mbps. The master transmits to and receives commands from slave nodes. Messages consist of a header and a data field which supports up to 8 bytes of data. When a master node sends an address to a slave, the slave responds with an acknowledgement. The slave then transmits a data message. The master then sends an acknowledgement to the slave, completing the transmission. If an error is detected in the communication, the slave sends an error message, and the master sends a NAK (Negative Acknowledgement) message.

The device operates over a wide range of temperatures and supply voltages, and offers low-power consumption. It also provides EMC protection and reverse polarity protection. Other features include short circuit protection, sleep mode, burst transfer mode, and an error detect function. The device supports up to 20 Mbps data rates with a 4x wired bus, and is ideal for applications such as Smart Metering and Street Lighting.
