The TL5001AIP is a highly integrated DC-DC switching buck controllers designed for high current, high efficiency, and low output voltage point-of-load (POL) applications. The device provides fast transient response and excellent line and load regulation performance with low output noise. It is optimized for a wide range of POL applications, from core supplies in embedded systems, to automotive sub-system power, to communications and consumer electronics. Offered in a small, low profile, thermally enhanced VFQFN-7 package, the TL5001AIP provides highly accurate voltage regulation in response to transient load conditions.

As a DC-DC switching buck controller, the TL5001AIP operates in two modes: Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) mode and Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM) mode. In PWM mode, the device generates pulses of regulated voltage which are regulated by pulses of regulated frequency at full load current. The voltage is maintained at the set output voltage by adjusting the duty cycle of the pulses. In PFM mode, the device operates in an open loop, generating pulses of voltage at a constant frequency and maintaining the output voltage at the set level. The frequency of the output pulses varies to maintain a constant output voltage as the load current changes.

The TL5001AIP provides several protection features for its applications. The integrated overcurrent protection (OCP) limits the device from pulling excessive current from an external MOSFET. It also includes undervoltage lockout (UVLO), Overvoltage Protection (OVP) and Overtemperature Protection (OTP). Additionally, the TL5001AIP provides a wide input voltage range from 0.9 to 3.7V, output voltage accuracy of 0.8%, current limit accuracy of ±1.0%, and temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
