The TLC7225IDW is a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) integrated circuit (IC) manufactured by Texas Instruments. With a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, the TLC7225IDW is suitable for demanding automotive, industrial and consumer applications. With this device, users can implement 12-bit resolution, voltage output digital-to-analog conversion.

The TLC7225IDW operates using a ratiometric conversion principle, instead of the conventional internal reference voltage. This process also enables the maximum voltage output to be adjusted as needed by adjusting an external reference voltage. This external reference can be as low as 0.5V providing users with up to 6.5V of output voltage range if the reference voltage is 5.5V. The bi-polar input voltage range is up to 4.096V and the output is rail-rail meaning the voltage can swing between the positive (V+) and the negative (V-) rails.

The TLC7225IDW is available in an 8-pin dual inline package, with a peak output current specification of 150mA. Typical power consumption is 500µA and is reversible to 0µA, with: logic low power consumption of 0µA , mid-scale power consumption of 0.156µA and full-scale power consumption of 0.3µA.

The internal amplifier of the TLC7225IDW is an operational non-inverting amplifier with a gain of -1 (unity gain) and slew rate of 0.2V/µs. With an integrated latch and DAC, the serial data input is latched on the rising edge and a 12-bit resolution DAC is converted and applied to the output amplifier. A single pin serves as both of the input latching clock and the power down pin. By pulling this pin low, the device is put into a power down mode and power consumption is reduced.
