The TLC7528IPW is an 8-bit voltage output Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC), classified under the data acquisition family. It is among the most innovative converter in its category and also one of the smallest DACs due to its 5mm x 5mm package size. It provides high precision and low noise of 0.5mV resolution and 6uV noise PSU, respectively. The TLC7528IPW is also equipped with a voltage switch for the digital to analog conversion and a 2-channel multiplexer for the analog multiplexing which is enabled and disabled by the Volatile RAM (VRAM) controller.
The VRAM controller provides 8-bit resolution in both the DAC channels, which is further enhanced by a 16-bit resolution DAC. The half-ladder configuration is used to build a 4-bit and 6-bit resolution in the 1st and 2nd DAC channels, respectively. The half-ladder configuration ensures a wide linearity range and resolution with both the DAC channels, guaranteeing low noise and accurate conversion. The linearity range can be further improved by the use of special codes that allow the bias currents to be adjusted.
The VRAM controller also senses the input voltage and provides an output voltage via the open collector outputs, from which the current-sensing feedback is generated. This current-sensing feedback helps in controlling the power supply, resulting in a very low power consumption. This precision and high accuracy makes it suitable for applications involving small and ultra-low power consumption.
To ensure reliable operation, the TLC7528IPW is also equipped with an analog noise filter, which serves to reduce the high frequency noise that may be present during the DAC operation. The filter also improves the accuracy and performance of the DAC, by removing undesirable artifacts from the input and output signals. The DAC also features user-programmable high and low performance limits, to prevent any unwanted out-of-range outputs and over-voltage trips.
