The TNY377PN is a User Configurable AC-DC Converter packaged in a TO-92-Style package. It is designed to provide up to 18 watts of output power in a variety of applications, such as providing a regulated AC-DC converter for any type of equipment that requires a regulated output voltage. The working principle of the TNY377PN starts with the primary side switch, switching at a given operating frequency. At the rising edge of the switch, a fixed on-time is characterized by the duty cycle. The output voltage is adjusted by varying the duty cycle. The duty cycle is optimized for high efficiency and fast transient response by adjusting the proportional part (Kp) and integral part (Ki) of the current loop through internal and external loop-compensation components.
Additionally, a synchronous rectifier is used in the secondary side, enabling high robustness and efficiency with respect to the input voltage. The inductor and capacitor of the power stage provide damping and energy storage, respectively. The current limit protects the TNY377PN from overcurrent conditions, and the output undervoltage protection monitors and shuts down the device should the output voltage drop below a given voltage. Other protection features include an open-loop protection and short-circuit protection.
The TNY377PN is suitable for a wide variety of applications, including residential and commercial lighting, consumer appliances and home improvement products, medical equipment, and any other device that requires a regulated AC-DC converter or offline switcher.
