The TNY380PN is an integrated single-stage primary-side synchronous flyback DC/DC converter controller which is in the range of Power Management ICs (PMICs). It is based on the primary-side regulation architecture without optocoupler, which provides high-cost performance and low system designs. The TNY380PN is suitable for applications that require a higher system efficiency and a compact design, such as adapter, LED lighting and battery management system.
The TNY380PN has a wide range of operating voltage, covering 3V-20V and offers a high maximum output current of 2A. Its peak voltage feedback architecture helps provide high efficiency. It has a low duty auto-cycle or pulse frequency modulation (PFM) control system which can reduce power consumption and improve power conversion to better than 80%. In addition, the over-voltage protection and short-circuit protection help ensure system safety.

Working Principle
The TNY380PN adopts a peak voltage feedback architecture to adjust the output voltage. The device provides an isolated peak voltage feedback output and is driven by an external gate drive circuit. The external power switch is driven by a gate signal from an internal MOSFET driver, and the output voltage is sensed by an external DC voltage divider. The peak voltage feedback signal is compared to an internal reference level, and the output voltage is regulated according to the error generated.
The TNY380PN features a low-duty auto-cycle or PFM control system which can reduce power consumption and improve power conversion efficiency to better than 80%. When the output load is heavy, the device operates in auto-cycle control mode. When the load is light, the device operates in PFM mode, allowing the internal switch to remain OFF, and reducing the input current.
The TNY380PN is designed with over-voltage and short-circuit protection which helps ensure system safety. It also adopts temperature protection and adjustable dead time to avoid synchronous rectifier shoot over. The device comes with programmable current limit, soft start and a maximum duty cycle clamp.
