TPS40210DRCR is intended for a wide range of step-down voltage regulator, DC-DC converter and Voltage-In-Series (VIS) applications where high efficiency and flexibility are needed. It is a single-chip solution with peak current mode, synchronous rectification, multiphase control, and cycle-by-cycle current sensing. The broad input voltage range simplifies design, while the synchronization input helps to minimize EMI filter size and cost, along with the other features offered.

Working Principle

The TPS40210DRCR operates by sensing the power MOSFET current and compensating for the voltage drop across the MOSFET to regulate output voltage. It resonates the voltage across the MOSFET to reduce losses and compensate for the leading phase, to improve regulation accuracy. It supports over-current protection and soft-start features to protect the MOSFETs.

The peak current mode gives the TPS40210DRCR the ability to drive large power MOSFETs with low impedance, providing line and load regulation across the wide input range. The synchronization feature supports synchronization operated from 0.5MHz to 4Mhz together with the phase-shift feature.

The TPS40210DRCR device also supports multiphase interleaving for current sharing, reducing ripple current and providing better system EMI behavior. To ensure a consistent voltage and current, the device provides cycle-by-cycle current sensing. The internal compensation block and soft-start provide a robust solution for high-efficiency and high-alignment.

The TPS40210DRCR also supports a low-shutdown quiescent current of 240nA, enabling a power-saving shutdown. The device also supports fast transient response, with a shift in the dwell time of 500ns. The device is also provided with protected features against input/output overvoltage, short circuit, and over-temperature conditions.
