Working principle

The TPS51217DSCT is a fixed-frequency synchronous buck regulator that utilizes voltage mode control as well as programmable current limit and soft start. The input voltage source is switched using a full bridge circuit with low on resistance. The output voltage is thereby regulated through the detailed regulation of the duty cycle of the switching waveform.

The device features an adjustable frequency up to 500KHz, currently programmable by an external resistor. Also included is a low input voltage sensing for the 5V/3.3V input voltages as well as an enable pin to enable/disable the device. The device also includes a thermal protection to prevent over-temperature operation and a power save mode for operation at light loads.
