TVS - Diodes

A Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) Diode, also known as a surge suppressor diode, is a specialized electronic component which is used to protect electrical and electronic components from high voltage transients, such as those caused by lightning, electrostatic discharge (ESD) and inductive loading. TVS diodes are able to shunt high voltage transients away from sensitive components, thereby protecting them from damage.

Working Principle
