TZS4693-GS08 Zener diode is a type of diode and is one of the most widely used for special applications that require precise voltage control. A zener diode regulates a precise voltage drop between its anode and cathode. It is generally preferred for regular zener diodes for their low cost and stability. How it works?
When forward biasing a Zener diode, the device operates just like a normal diode, limiting the current flow through the junction. The forward voltage drop of the diode is approximately 0.7V. But once the breakdown voltage – Vz – is reached, the voltage across the diode remains constant, regardless of the changes in the applied external voltage.
This is because the Zener diode works differently due to its heavily doped junction which causes electrons to be instantly scattered in the opposite direction across the junction, creating a small avalanche current that is large enough to keep the zener diode’s voltage at the breakdown voltage.
