Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors (AECs) are widely used electronic components found in applications ranging from audio and industrial electronics to computing and automotive circuits. These capacitors are designed to store electrical energy and are extremely useful for filtering, timing and voltage regulation.

An aluminum electrolytic capacitor is a type of capacitor that uses an electrolyte, such like a liquid, gel, or solid to form a conductive barrier between two electrodes. A single device of this kind is constructed of two metal plates that have space between them. The space is then filled with either a liquid or a solid material. The resulting capacitor has two distinct electrodes: a positive electrode and a negative electrode.
