UC3841N is a high performance current-mode PWM (pulse width modulation)Controller specifically designed for off-line and DC-to-DC converter applications. It can be used in a wide variety of switching power supplies for supplies from 40 to 500 watts. It provides up to 3A peak output current, adjustable voltage and current limits, programmable frequency, and several protection features.

UC3841N Application Field:

UC3841N can be used in a wide range of off-line and DC-to-DC converter applications, such as power factor correction (PFC) circuits, DC-DC converters, switched capacitor voltage converters/regulators, DC-AC inverters, magnetic generators, power switching supplies, and DC motor drivers and light dimmers. It has a wide operating frequency range and can thus be used in a variety of power conversion applications.

UC3841N Working Principle:

UC3841N working principle mainly consists of two parts: one is the on-chip analog circuitry and the other is the digital control. The analog circuitry is mainly responsible for controlling the switching period of the output voltage and the current. It includes a comparator, reference voltage sources, a PWM comparator, input drivers and an oscillator. The current comparator senses the output current peak, and the output is connected to the PWM comparator. The output of the PWM comparator is then compared to the reference voltage to generate a PWM cycle. The frequency of the PWM cycle is determined by the oscillator.

On the other hand, the digital circuitry is mainly responsible for controlling the amount of time the output signal is high or low. The digital circuitry consists of an internal signal-processing engine which processes the input commands and generates the digital control signal. This signal is then amplified and sent as a voltage signal to the analog circuitry, controlling the output voltage and current.

UC3841N has several protection features like short-circuit protection and thermal overload protection which are provided by the on-chip comparator and power transistor. It also has cycle-by-cycle current limit, voltage sense, and overvoltage protection. All these features make UC3841N a high performance and reliable PWM controller ideal for a wide range of applications.
