This is achieved by comparing the voltage seen on the current sensing pin (FB) with the reference voltage generated from an on-chip bandgap reference (V REF ). When the FB voltage exceeds the V REF voltage, the power Switch is switched off and when the FB voltage is less than the reference voltage, the PWM switch is switched on. This type of current mode control makes use of the current in the power switch (I S or I SW ) to set the operating frequency of the converter and to achieve a stable control loop. The UC3843DTRG4 operates in a fixed frequency mode, allowing the switching frequency to be accurately controlled, which helps to reduce EMI and minimise radiated noise when the converter is operating in noisy environments.The IC contains an on-chip timer, soft-start and frequency synchronization functions and is capable of supplying up to 500mA of output power from its high current output stage. The IC has an internal protection circuit which prevents damage to the power switch during an startup, under voltage lockout and over temperature operating conditions. In addition, the IC has a low-frequency burst mode operation (LFBM) function which helps to reduce power dissipation in stand-by and light load mode operations.
