UC3842AM is an integrated switch-mode regulators and controllers designed for use in pulsed-rectifier and multipulse applications. This particular device combines on-chip circuitry to implement a single pulse-width modulation (PWM) control function. It includes an internal temperature compensation circuit and requires only two external resistors to set the output voltage.

For operation with a linear post regulator, the voltage regulator section provides accurately controlled Valley current-mode control, as well as Time-Out/Valley current limiting. A dedicated oscillator section provides the necessary clock, while an internal latch improves transient response. The wide loop-gain bandwidth, with power complementary output, is easily adapted to the needs of line-powered regulators with very low EMI.
In voltage-mode control applications, the UC3842AM has an enhanced level of protection against output overloads and input supply failures, due to the current limit feature. Voltage-mode control also improves line and load transient response and maintains stable step-down operation even with large output capacitance.
UC3842AM has an on-chip temperature-compensation circuit, so it can be used in applications with no additional compensationrequired. A single resistor is all that is required to set the output voltage, and two external resistors determine the current limit and soft start times. This device operates at frequencies of up to 500kHz, allowing for small and efficient converter designs.
