UC3843AD Application Field and Working PrincipleUC3843AD is a high performance Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) controller. It belongs to the Voltage Regulators / DC-DC Switching Controllers family. It’s used for e.g. switchmode converters such as embedded DC/DC converter applications, power factor correction (PFC) controllers, switched mode power supply (SMPS) controllers, regulated or unregulated switching power supplies, etc.The UC3843AD has an internal active clamp reset.This particular product features adaptive dead-time control and is especially suitable for converters requiring very low output ripple voltage. The UC3843AD is capable of offering several protection features, including current limiting, open-loop protection with automatic recovery and frequency foldback. The internal soft-start™ circuit provides power-on ramp and improves system reliability.The device includes under-voltage protection circuit (UVLO) which prevents operation of the device until the voltage applied to VG is higher than the UVLO trip point. Additionally, the over voltage protection circuit (OVP) prevents the chip from being operated in overload conditions.The UC3843AD can operate in both single and parallel configurations with load sharing. The UC3843AD is designed to operate over a wide temperature range and has both a logic threshold temperature limiter and an overtemperature protection limiter. All these features make it a versatile and reliable solution. The UC3843AD contains two open-collector drivers which can be used to drive two N-channel MOSFETs. It works with sawtooth waveforms, which are generated inside the device, and compared with an adjustable reference voltage. The output of the comparator is used to adjust the duty cycles to maintain an output voltage.The UC3843AD also features an internal oscillator, which can be set from 1.5 kHz to 500 kHz. It is also possible to drive this pin externally with a clock signal as well.Moreover, the UC3843AD is built with an under-voltage protection circuit (UVLO). This circuit will disable the UC3843AD if the control voltage falls below the trip point. The IC also has an over-voltage protection circuit (OVP).
