UC3854ADW is a line of high-performance power factor correction (PFC) controllers from the portfolio of Texas Instruments. It is a low-cost, easy-to-use PFC solution, ideal for mid-power PFC designs. The device provides a complete PFC function in the majority of global power applications, from 50 W to 1 kW.

The UC3854ADW device is a high-speed, low-power CMOS current-mode PFC controller with built-in PWM control. It is designed for use in single-stage discontinuous-conduction mode (DCM) PFC systems up to 1 kW. The UC3854ADW device features a differential voltage sense input, voltage and current feedback control, cycle-by-cycle current limit, and an on-board synchronous rectifier driver. Internal defect and under-voltage lockout provide protection while soft start, PLL synchronization, and brown-in/brown-out detection offer greater system usability.

The UC3854ADW controller has two operating modes: constant-frequency/constant-voltage (CF/CV) and quasi-resonant (QR). The CF/CV operating mode offers the best performance for PFC applications, while the QR mode is provided for compliance to standards requiring true-sinewave inrush current limiting. In either mode, the UC3854ADW controller incorporates comprehensive control to provide the highest power factor and load regulation. The QR mode also senses load transients and automatically adjusts operation to ensure proper inrush current limitation without affecting the load dynamics.

The UC3854ADW controller is ideal for a wide range of applications including PCs, laser printers, and other white goods. The device is ideal for applications that need to meet EN61000-3-2 and NEC/UL requirements including harmonic current attenuation (HCA), power factor (PF), and harmonic current (HC).
