UCC28515N Application Field and Working Principle
The UCC28515N is a current-mode primary-side-controlled Power Factor Correction (PFC) controller powered by ON Semiconductor. It is a single-stage active power factor correction controller specifically designed to enable a seamless transition from continuous conduction mode (CCM) to discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). It is capable of driving converters up to 500W, and is well suited for off-line universal input applications including LED lighting, motor control, and other AC-DC end equipment.This high-performance PFC controller is capable of accurately regulating the Average Seebeck Power Factor (ASPF) through its proprietary Average Seebeck Power Factor Control (ASPFC) algorithm, which dynamically adjusts switching cycles by closely regulating the Ichnoc voltage. It also features an adjustable current sense resistance of up to 150mV/A, allowing for precision accuracy across the entire range. The UCC28515N maximizes power efficiency and system performance by offering a wide range of protection features such as line UVLO, brown-in and brown-out lock-out, auto restart, and over temperature protection. Moreover, it comes with many integrated safety and performance-enhancing features: external dead time adjustment, soft start/stop for output inrush current control, and logic level multiplexing for miniaturization and flexibility in choosing components. The UCC28515N supports an input range from 85~265VAC, and provides an output range of 7~500W. It is available in a fixed frequency operating frequency range from 60 kHz to 500 kHz and operates from either a 5V or an externally-supplied 5kHz to 100kHz synchronization signal.The UCC28515N\'s primary-side control architecture offers significant advantages in cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and system flexibility. Its unique ASPFC algorithm ensures tight voltage regulation and higher power factor, while its adjustable Ichnoc detection provides accurate timing control, thus allowing for efficient system operation. The device supports multiple communication interface options such as Remote Voltage Sensing (RVS) and Auxiliary Voltage Sensing (AVS) which can further enhance system performance. Finally, the device\'s optimized loop response and fast transient response increase stability and reduce the amount of output capacitance needed, thus resulting in cost and size savings. Overall, the UCC28515N is an ideal device for off-line universal input applications, including LED lighting, motor control and other AC-DC end equipment.
