The UCC28C41D is a current-mode PWM controller in the series of DC DC switching controllers from Texas Instruments. It is designed for cost-effective, high-efficiency off-line power supplies. It can utilize either half- or full-bridge topologies. UCC28C41D provides exceptional regulation accuracy and stability without external compensation for both boost and flyback topologies.
The UCC28C41D features an adjustable oscillator frequency up to 300 kHz, allowing the use of small size external components and minimizing EMI. With the Cycle-by-Cycle Current Limit function, the transformer core can be driven at a much higher frequency while maintaining high efficiency. The device also features Under-Voltage Lockout with Hysteresis, Short-Circuit Protection and Start-Up current limiter.
With the built-in voltage feedback control circuitry, UCC28C41D can deliver primary peak current control with a wide range of operating ranges that instantaneously turn on and off the switches. The active clamp circuit of the UCC28C41D limits the primary switch peak current and maximizes IC efficiency. The Active Clamp circuit helps in providing protection to the external MOSFETs during over-current fault conditions.

Working Principle of UCC28C41D
The working principle of UCC28C41D is based on the principle of pulse width modulation (PWM). This is a technique used for controlling power supplies. In this technique, a rectangular signal is used to modulate the width of the pulse. The width of the pulse is proportional to the input signal. The higher the input signal, the wider the width of the pulse, and vice versa.
The PWM signal is generated by the controller and sent to the gate of the MOSFETs to control the output voltage. The UCC28C41D uses the voltage feedback control circuit to detect the output voltage and compare it with the voltage set by the user. If the output voltage is lower than the set voltage, the controller will increase the width of the pulse sent to the MOSFETs, which increases the duty cycle and the output voltage of the power supply. If the output voltage is higher than the set voltage, the controller will decrease the width of the pulse, which decreases the duty cycle and the output voltage of the power supply. The Active Clamp circuit of the UCC28C41D limits the peak current of the MOSFETs and provides protection against over-current fault conditions. The Start-Up current limiter helps to reduce the start up current drawn by the system when it is first turned on. The Short-Circuit Protection feature helps to protect the external MOSFETs from over-current fault conditions. The Adjustable oscillator frequency allows the user to adjust the frequency of the pulse sent to the MOSFETs between 500 kHz to 2 MHz, which enables higher-frequency operation and reduces noise in the power supply.
